Cold Sore Treatments From the Internet- Can You Trust These Home Remedies for Herpes Fever Blisters

The internet has many sites that list cold sore treatments home remedies. Can this information be trusted? After all, we’ve read that wikipedia is a site where users add their own information and that many universities are having trouble with the veracity of it’s content.

When you look at a discussion forum or a message board on health problems such as cold sore blisters try to see if the recommendation has received any feedback- positive or negative. This can help you get a little bit of perspective on the usefulness of a natural remedy for herpes that someone is suggesting.

Keep in mind that people are self-diagnosing and they may not even have had a cold sore but it could be a canker sore or a pimple on their lip. In any case, here are a few recommendations I’ve found on the net so let’s review them:

1) Put nail polish on the cold sore. I’m not too sure if I like this idea. Nail polish is used for chiggers by some people. We are talking about a sensitive area, the lip. You also eat and lick your lips so need to be aware of what chemicals will be on your lips. I don’t think this is a great idea.

2) Avoid peanuts . Yes, for me the argine in peanut butter can cause an eruption and there are many studies that say that an imbalance of amino acids can cause cold sore outbreaks. Try to avoid argine rich foods such as peanuts and chocolate.

3) Put tabasco sauce on the lip. Hmm, I don’t recommend this. I never tried it but don’t think burning the cold sore is a way to help it heal.

4) Eat yogurt and take acidopholous tablets. Yes, this sounds good and this builds the immune system and gives you good bacteria.

5) Use toothpaste on the lip cold sore and also apply listerine. In my research someone wrote they react negatively to sodium laurel sulfate which is in toothpaste so I am not sure this will be an effective treatment or if it can cause a reaction. In terms of using listerine, it depends on how your skin reacts to alcohol. Some of the listerines can be very strong. This needs more research.

6) Apply drying formulas from acne medications. No, an acne pimple is not the same as a cold sore which is a virus. If you dry your lips out the scab can open very easily as it tries to heal.

Try to study and evaluate each proposed suggestion and be sure you find others who have positive responses before trying an internet cold sore solution.

i have two dark spots on my face. i believe they are acne scars. they aren’t terrible, so i’m hoping to ‘fix’ them without any kind of abrasive procedure such as meds or surgery. have you tried any over-the-counter products that minimizes the appearance of acne scars? lotions, creams, washes, daily regimes, ect…?

try not to touch them or put too much make-up on those spots. thats what i did, and my ‘acne scars’ went away
